CHRISTIANSBURG, Va.—Junior Virginia diver JB Kolod won the men’s 3-meter springboard event Monday afternoon (March 10) at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. With the win, Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) qualifies for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship for the second-consecutive year.

Kolod completed the prelims and finals with a combined score of 828.45, including a school-record score of 433.40 in the finals (395.05 in prelims). Sophomore Carl Buergler (Arlington, Va.) placed fifth with 708.65 points (326.50 in prelims, 382.15 in finals), while classmate Jordan Sacks (Wilmette, Ill.) was 12th with 640.85 points (315.65 in prelims, 325.20 in finals). Sophomore Colby Shinholser (Burtonsville, Md.) placed 26th with a score of 274.95 points.

On the women’s 1-meter boards, sophomore Katie Warburg (Wilton, Conn.) qualified for the finals and finished ninth with a score of 489.95, after ranking 11th in the prelims with a score of 234.90 (255.05 in finals). Fellow sophomore Becca Corbett (Louisville, Ky.) finished 31st with 206.20 points.

The meet continues Tuesday (March 11) with the men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter events being contested. The action is set for a noon start.

The national meet is to be held March 27-29 in Austin, Texas. At last year’s NCAA meet, Kolod finished 12th on the 3m boards, the highest finish ever by a Virginia diver.
