ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Virginia junior Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.) made her debut at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday as she competed on day one of the 2014 meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Lavender finished 12th in the preliminaries, but did not advance to Saturday’s final.

Lavender, who was seeded fifth in the event, posted a time of 52.99. It was the third-best indoor time of her career, as she is the only Cavalier woman to break the 53-second mark indoors.

“Today’s race was disappointing, of course,” said head coach Bryan Fetzer. “Jordan wasn’t as aggressive as she needed to be during the first 200m, which put her in a hole that was too tough to overcome against a talented field that included a US Olympian and the defending NCAA Champion. She will rebound and learn from it for outdoors. It was a good indoor season and she will just need to continue the process to make outdoors a great one.”

The Cavaliers will open the outdoor season next weekend as they host the Virginia Cup on March 22 at Lannigan Field.
