Brightwell Leads UVa with Eighth-Place Finish at Gator Invitational

Gainesville, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team finished sixth at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Cavaliers shot 305 during Sunday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 886. Arizona won the event at 866.

Virginia senior Elizabeth Brightwell led the Cavaliers with an eighth-place finish, shooting 8-over 218. She finished with a 77 during the final round. It was the fourth top-10 finish in Brightwell’s career.

Lauren Coughlin was UVa’s second-highest finisher, shooting 221 to place 21st. She was one of three Cavaliers to shoot 76 during the final round. Lauren Diaz-Yi and Portland Rosen also carded rounds of 6-over Sunday. Diaz-Yi placed 27th at 222 and Rosen was 49th, along with teammate Briana Mao, at 228. Mao shot 78 during the final round.

Miami’s Daniela Darquea took medalist honors with a final score of 4-over 214, that featured a final round score of 3-under 67.

The Cavaliers return to action March 28-30 at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C.
