CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday (March 18).

No. 67 Collins went 2-0 in No. 2 singles action as the Cavaliers lost 4-3 at then-No. 12 Georgia and defeated then-No. 13 Michigan 5-2 last week.

Collins played a key role in the Cavaliers’ victory over the Wolverines, clinching the team victory by defeating No. 20 Yonit Yurovsky, 6-1, 6-3. Against Georgia, Collins evened the team score at three apiece, as she defeated No. 21 Moho Kowase, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. The victories moved Collins’ singles record to 19-9 this season.

Collins is the second Cavalier to earn ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, joining sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) who was honored Feb. 4.

No. 6 Virginia hosts Notre Dame and Pittsburgh in ACC action on March 21 and 23 at Snyder Tennis Center.
