ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore Danielle Collins(St. Petersburg, Fla.) advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championships on Wednesday (May 21) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

No. 32 Collins (32-10), making her NCAA Singles Championship debut, posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over No. 43 Veronica Corning of Northwestern in the round of 64 and will face No. 18 Annet Schutting of Cal in the round of 32 on Thursday (May 22).

Virginia’s Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), and Stephanie Nauta(Galveston, Texas) also competed in the singles championship today, but were eliminated. No. 4 seed Elbaba (31-6) lost 6-2, 6-2 to Stanford’s Krista Hardebeck and No. 53 Nauta (33-8) was ousted 6-3, 6-0 by No. 3 seed Kristie Ahn of Stanford. Despite the loss, Elbaba earns her school-best second All-America honor as a seeded player in the tournament.

The seventh-ranked tandem of Elbaba and Rachel Pierson(Princeton, N.J.) will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship tomorrow against USC’s Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz in the round of 64.
