CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior attacker Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla.) was named the 2014 All-State University Division Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Julie Myers was named the VaSID All-State Coach of the Year while eight Cavaliers were named to the all-state teams.

Swan, an IWLCA Second-Team All-American and a IWLCA First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-ACC honoree who was also a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award, ranked 16th in the nation with 80 points this season (53 goals, 27 assists). Swan was third in the ACC and 15th in the nation in draw controls, averaging 4.57 per game. Swan, who helped lead the Cavaliers to the NCAA Semifinals this season, was the recipient of the Elite 89 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the NCAA Championship.

Myers, in her 19th season as the Cavaliers’ head coach, led her squad to its 19th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time since 2007. The Cavaliers, playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, finished the year with a 12-9 record, ranked No. 4 in the final IWLCA poll.

In addition to Swan, Virginia had four other players named to the VaSID All-State First Team, including senior goalkeeper Liz Colgan (Cockeysville, Md.), junior defender Morgan Stephens (Olney, Md.), senior midfielder Maddy Keeshan (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior attacker Liza Blue (Butler, Md.). Senior defender Lauren Goerz (Danville, Calif.), junior midfielder Daniela Eppler (Baltimore, Md.) and junior attacker Casey Bocklet (South Salem, N.Y.) earned second-team honors.
