NEW YORK – Virginia junior Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.) competed Saturday in the adidas Grand Prix, a Diamond League event on Randalls Island in New York City. It was an opportunity for Hazzard to run the 400m in the elite series of meets.

Hazzard, running near his hometown on Long Island, finished fifth in his heat of the 400m with a time of 46.60. British Olympian Michael Bingham won the race in a time of 45.13.

The Diamond League is a series of 14 meets around the world that feature the elite athletes in the sport. The New York meet is one of two meets in the series in the United States.

Later this summer Hazzard will run in at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. He will be a member of the 4x400m relay team for Grenada.
