CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia rising senior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) has been nominated for the 2014 ESPY award for Best Female College Athlete. She is one of five finalists for the award, which will be presented by ESPN on July 16.

Joining Brian as nominees for the award are Maryland lacrosse player Taylor Cummings, Penn State volleyball player Micha Hancock, Florida softball pitcher Hannah Rogers and Connecticut basketball player Breanna Stewart.

Brian, who was the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy winner and Soccer America National Player of the Year, is the first national player of the year in Virginia women’s soccer history. She tied for the ACC scoring lead this season with 46 points on 16 goals and a league-high 14 assists. A first-team NSCAA All-American, she tied the Virginia single-season assist record. Brian scored in all four of the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament victories as she led the team to its first College Cup appearance in 22 years. Brian was a First-Team All-ACC selection for the third consecutive season, in addition to being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and the All-NCAA Tournament Team. She also made 11 appearances for the United States Women’s National Team over the past year, scoring two goals.

Fans can vote for the award online at http://espn.go.com/espys/2014/. The Best Female College Athlete ESPY will be awarded July 16, but will not be presented as part of the ESPYs telecast.
