CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Twelve members of the Virginia swimming and diving program have been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as Scholar All-Americans, the association announced Monday (July 14). In addition, both the Cavalier men’s and women’s squads were recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams.

Graduated senior Emily Lloyd (Severna Park, Md.), rising seniors Shaun Casey (Port Orange, Fla.), Alison Haulsee (Glen Allen, Va.), Kelly Offutt (Reisterstown, Md.) and Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.), rising juniors Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) and Haley Durmer (Decatur, Ga.) and rising sophomore Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) of the women’s team and graduated senior Nathan Hart (Asheville, N.C.) of the men’s program were named to the Scholar All-America Team, while rising junior divers Carl Buergler (Arlington, Va.), Jordan Sacks (Wilmette, Ill.) and Colby Shinholser (Burtonsville, Md.) were recognized as Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.

All eight women and Hart swam at the NCAA Championships in March, while the three male divers all competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. Bartholomew, Simon, Williamson and Lloyd all earned All-America honors at the national meet as part of the 200 medley relay, while Bartholomew (100 and 200 back) also picked up individual All-America accolades. Simon (200 breast) was recognized with honorable mention All-America honors.

The women’s team was honored for having a cumulative GPA of 3.37 for the spring semester, while the men’s team earned the award for a cumulative GPA of 3.16. The women captured their seventh consecutive ACC Championship and placed 11th at the NCAA meet, while the men placed fourth at ACCs and 26th at NCAAs.

The Scholar All-American Team award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester or cumulative average and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.

The Honorable Mention Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester or cumulative average and have achieved a NCAA “B” time standard but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets.
