Cavaliers Host Villanova Sunday to Conclude Homestand

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The third-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team concludes its three-game homestand Sunday as it hosts Villanova. Game time at Klöckner Stadium at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots.
Virginia (2-0) has opened the season with a pair of shutout victories, downing Marshall 3-0 last week and Richmond 4-0 on Friday. It marks the first time since 2010 that the Cavaliers have opened the season with a pair of shutout victories. With a shutout on Sunday against Villanova, it would mark the first time since 2008 that Virginia has started a season with three straight clean sheets.
The Cavaliers have five different goal scorers this season, led by junior Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) and sophomore Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) with two goals each. Senior midfielders Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) lead Virginia with three and two assists, respectively.
The Wildcats (1-1) recorded their first win of the season on Friday, winning 1-0 at Radford. Villanova opened the season last week with a 2-1 loss to Drexel.
Virginia leads the all-time series 6-2-2, including a 2-0-1 record in Charlottesville. The teams have not met since a 2003 NCAA Tournament second round match at Klöckner Stadium. Villanova advanced to the round of 16 in penalty kicks after a scoreless draw. The last regular season meeting was in 1996, a 6-0 Cavalier victory at Klöckner.
The Cavaliers are currently on a school-record 20-game home win streak, the longest active streak in the nation. Against unranked opponents, Virginia has won 33 straight games and is unbeaten in its last 47 games (46-0-1).
Virginia makes its first road trip of the season next week as it plays at Alabama Friday night. Game time in Tuscaloosa is 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT).
