CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 6 Virginia field hockey team (1-2) plays its first home contest of the 2014 season, hosting No. 7 Princeton (0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at University Hall Turf Field.

Princeton opened its season on Friday night (Sept. 5) by taking on another ACC school, falling 1-0 at Duke. Duke outshot the Tigers 20-4, including a 17-4 advantage in the second half, with Princeton goalie Anya Gersoff making 12 saves.

Princeton holds a 5-4 edge in the all-time series against Virginia and has won each of the last three meetings, including defeating UVa, 5-2, in the 2012 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in Charlottesville.

After a dominant 9-0 opening-day victory at William & Mary in which six different Cavaliers scored goals, Virginia was shut out at No. 8 Penn State, 3-0 and then fell 4-3 at No. 20 Iowa.

Sophomore striker Caleigh Foust (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) scored twice against the Hawkeyes. Foust and fellow sophomore striker Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Tata, who had a goal and an assist at Iowa, leads the team with seven points.

The Cavaliers will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host Miami (Ohio) for a 1 p.m. contest at Turf Field. Admission is free for all of Virginia’s regular-season home field hockey games.
