CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 6 Virginia field hockey team (2-2) hosts Miami (Ohio) in a 1 p.m. afternoon contest on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at University Hall Turf Field.

The game against the Cavaliers will be the fourth contest for the RedHawks (0-4) against a top-15 opponent this season. Miami fell 3-1 at No. 1 Maryland on Sunday (Sept. 7).

The game will be the eighth all-time between Virginia and Miami with the RedHawks still looking for their first win in the series. In the most recent meeting on Sept. 14, 2012, the Cavaliers pulled out a 6-1 win. Miami has never earned a win against a top-10 team, the highest ranked opponents that the RedHawks have beaten are No. 17 Kent State (2010) and No. 17 Indiana (2009).

Virginia finished a string of three-straight games against ranked opponents with a 6-4 victory over No. 7 Princeton on Sunday (Sept. 7). Six different Cavaliers scored against the Tigers, including three players who logged the first goals of their collegiate careers. Virginia also had six different players score in the season-opener at William & Mary.

Nine different players have scored goals for Virginia this season with sophomores Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Caleigh Foust (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) tied for the team lead with four goals apiece. Freshman Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) leads the Cavaliers with five assists.

The Cavaliers close out the current home stand with a pair of games this weekend, hosting No. 15 Louisville on Friday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday, Sept. 14 noon game against Rutgers. Admission is free for all of Virginia’s regular-season home field hockey games.
