Sept. 19, 2014 Franklin, Tenn. – The Virginia women’s golf team is in seventh place after the opening round of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt’s Legends Club. The Cavaliers shot 9-over 297. LSU leads the 15-team field at 3-under 285. Vanderbilt is second at 288.

Virginia was led by freshman Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.), who shot 2-under 70 in her collegiate debut to finish the first day tied for fourth place. She is playing as an individual competitor and her score does not count for UVa team total.

Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) was UVa’s top counting scorer, shooting 1-under 71 to finish the round in ninth place. Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) is in 25th place at 74, Alex Hershberger (Basking Ridge, N.J.) is 33rd at 75, Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) is 50th at 77 and Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 53rd place at 78.

LSU’s Elise Bradley leads the field after shooting 4-under 68.

The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday.
