Sept. 27, 2014 TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia men’s tennis team began play Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships with two players competing in pre-qualifying. Sophomore Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) and first-year Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) both suffered second-round losses.

Corinteli, the top seed in pre-qualifying, received a first round bye. In the second round, he had to retire due to injury in the first set of his match with Marlon Brand of Pacific.

Wiersholm won his first match of the day, defeating Austin Ansari of Clemson, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round, he suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to No. 17 seed Jonathan Ho of Wake Forest.

Virginia will return to action at the tournament on Monday as play begins in the qualifying draw. Junior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) and sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) will be in action.

The main draw will start on Thursday. Two Cavaliers, senior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) received direct entry into the main draw.
