Sept. 29, 2014 Meadows of Dan, Va. – The No. 10 Virginia men’s golf team is in eight place after the first 36 holes of play at the Primland Collegiate Invitational in Meadows of Dan, Va. The Cavaliers shot 2-over 290 in the morning and posted an afternoon score of 10-under 278.

Host Wake Forest, ranked No. 21, leads the field at 27-under 549 while No. 12 Auburn is second at 553.

UVa was led by sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) who posted scores of 3-under 69 and 2-under 70. He is tied for 12th at 5-under 139. Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) is in 23rd place at 143 with scores of 76 and 67. His second round score matched his best 18-hole performance as a collegiate.

Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) is 30th at 144 (75-69), Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) and Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) are tied for 35th at 145 with identical rounds of 73 and 72. McLaughlin’s 3-under second round was the low 18-hole score of his career.

North Carolina’s William Register leads the field at 13-under 131. He had rounds of 66 and 65.

Virginia and Clemson will be paired together in the third round and will start play at 8:50 a.m. from the No. 10 tee. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
