Oct. 7, 2014 CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior forward Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) was named ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Ratcliffe scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the Cavaliers’ 2-1 victory Sunday at No. 10 Notre Dame.
With Sunday’s game tied 1-1 in the final minute, Ratcliffe knocked in a rebound of a Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) shot with 20 seconds remaining to give the Cavaliers their first win over a ranked opponent this season. It was her first game-winning goal of the season and her sixth goal this season, tying Doniak for the team lead.
The award is the second of Ratcliffe’s career and the first for a Cavalier this season. She was honored once last season.
The fourth-ranked Cavaliers (11-1, 3-0 ACC) return to action Thursday as they host Boston College. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (Comcast Mid-Atlantic Plus in Virginia).
