CHARLOTTESVILLE – Three members of the Virginia men’s tennis team will conclude the fall season this week at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The tournament begins Thursday and runs through Sunday at the home of the U.S. Open.

Junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) will compete in singles, while Shane will team with sophomore Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) in doubles.

Shane and Kwiatkowski will compete in the 32-player singles draw. Shane, who earned a spot in the field by winning the ITA Atlantic Regional singles title, will play Jared Hiltzik of Illinois in the first round. Kwiatkowski, who earned a place in the draw with a semifinal appearance at the ITA All-American Championships, will face Thomas Fawcett of Stanford in the first round.

Shane and Corinteli, the ITA Atlantic Region doubles champions, are in the 20-team doubles draw. The duo will receive a first round bye and meet the Illinois pair of Ross Guignon and Tim Kopinski in the round of 16.

A Cavalier has won the ITA National Indoor singles title three times, with Somdev Devvarman in 2007, Mitchell Frank in 2011 and Jarmere Jenkins in 2012. Virginia has won the doubles title once, as Devvarman teamed with Treat Huey to win the 2007 championship.

Three other Cavaliers will also be in action this weekend at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Junior Jonathan Cornish (London, England), sophomore J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and first-year Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) will conclude their fall season at the event.
