CHARLOTTESVILLE – The fourth-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team continues play in the 2014 NCAA Tournament Friday as it hosts a second-round doubleheader at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers play No. 21 Rutgers at 6 p.m. in the second game of the day, following a 3 p.m. matchup between No. 14 Kentucky and Arizona State.

Friday’s winners will meet in the third round on Sunday. Game time will be 5 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

Tickets for Friday are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth/student/senior citizen general admission, and are good for both games of the doubleheader. Fans can order tickets for the tournament online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of play.

Because of Friday’s men’s basketball game vs. George Washington at 7 p.m., the John Paul Jones Arena lots and garage, the University Hall lots and the McCue lot are reserved for basketball permit holders. Parking for women’s soccer will be free in the Emmet/Ivy Garage.

This season marks the 17th time in the past 21 years that the Cavaliers have hosted NCAA Tournament play at Klöckner Stadium. Overall, Virginia has a 26-12-3 record in home NCAA Tournament games.

Virginia is making its 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its 27th overall. Only North Carolina and Notre Dame have longer active streaks of tournament appearances. Since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 2001, Virginia is one of four schools to advance to the second round every year, along with North Carolina, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Virginia (19-2) enters Friday’s game looking for its second consecutive 20-win season and a trip to the round of 16 for the 10th consecutive year. The Cavaliers downed High Point 8-0 in the first round last week as Morgan Reuther (Chantilly, Va.) had a hat trick and Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) had a goal and an NCAA Tournament-record five assists. Virginia leads the nation in scoring at 3.48 goals per game and has won 30 consecutive games at Klöckner Stadium, the eighth-longest home winning streak in NCAA history.

Rutgers (13-5-1) is searching its first round of 16 appearance since 2008. The Scarlet Knights, who finished fourth in their inaugural season in the Big Ten, advanced to the NCAA second round with a 2-0 victory over La Salle last week.

The all-time series between the schools is tied, 3-3-0, with Rutgers winning the first three meetings from 1986-88 and Virginia winning the last three. The teams have met at Klöckner Stadium in each of the past two years. The Cavaliers defeated Rutgers 6-1 in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament and downed the Scarlet Knights 6-0 during the 2013 regular season.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Kentucky (15-6-1) and Arizona State (12-5-4) are both looking for their first NCAA round of 16 appearance.
