CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend (Dec. 5-7) for the Georgia Fall Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Cavaliers will face full squads from Auburn, California, Florida State, Georgia and Penn State and divers from Harvard, Virginia Tech and UCLA.

The meet will be contested under a championship format with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. each morning and finals starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The diving competitions will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

In the latest CSCAA men’s national poll, Cal is No. 6, Georgia is No. 12, Auburn is No. 19 and Florida State is No. 24. On the women’s side, Georgia is No. 2, Cal is No. 5, Auburn is No. 6, Virginia is No. 9 and Penn State is No. 15.

Junior Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) ranks in the top 10 in the nation in two events, including the 100 back (7th) and 200 back (10th), while sophomore Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is ranked No. 21 in the 500 free and No. 27 in the 1,000 free. Fellow sophomore Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) ranks No. 19 in the 100 breast and No. 21 in the 200 breast.

On the men’s side, junior Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) currently ranks No. 19 in the country in the 100 breast and freshman Brendan Casey ranks No. 26 in the 1,000 free.

The Cavaliers’ next meet will be against Virginia Tech Jan. 16-17 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville.
