Associate Head Coach Kim McNeill

Opening Statement:
“First of all, I’m just going to smile. Hopefully that’s the ugliest we play all year. We’ve got it out of our systems, and we’ll just move on. Not a lot to take from that game, but there’s a lot to take from the season this far. We’re 7-0 at home, and that’s a really good start overall. We struggled a bit tonight, but a win is a win and we’ll take it.”

On UVa’s struggles:
“I think it was a combination of fatigue, Christmas being right around the corner, and Howard doing a good job defensively. That was a different zone than we’ve seen all year. It was different and it was hard to go against. I thought we had some good looks. We tried to force it a little bit, but like I said- we’ll take a win.”

On the season going forward:
“I think we’ve shown some spurts of some pretty good basketball and the potential to be a really good team. But, I don’t think we’ve put a complete 40 minutes together yet. Until we do that we’re not where we need to be. That was the focus of this game, but obviously we didn’t succeed in putting a full 40 minutes together, but you’ve seen some spurts of pretty good basketball.”

On her time as acting head coach:
“I never thought I’d coach all three [games]. It’s been a great experience. I’ve loved to have the opportunity to coach these young ladies and see how they respond. Give credit to the whole staff, and the ladies have been good too. We’ve had great practices where they’ve responded and I don’t feel like there’s been any ete down at all.”

UVA Guard Faith Randolph

On the game:
“During the game it was a little rough offensively, and defensively we weren’t in certain positions that we needed to be. But we pushed through it and I thought our press really helped us get steals and get easy buckets in transition.”

On the upcoming Christmas Break:
“I think we need this break, both mentally and physically, to get our minds right and see our family. We’ll be ready to get back at it when we come back on the 26th.”

On the guard play:
“We need to calm down and stop forcing it. We were trying to force it a lot to the post, and Howard played really good defense inside. We need to move the ball more and just have good crisp passes and attack the lane better when we have the chance.”

UVA Center Sarah Imovbioh

On the last game before break:
“Everyone is excited to go home but coach told us we need to take care of business here first. I think our goal for tonight was to finish the game so we can have a good break.”

On UVa’s turnover struggles:
“It seemed like we were able to get stops, but when we got a stop we’d turn the ball over right away. We talked about getting a stop and keeping the ball to be able to go through our offense. I felt like the guards did a much better job in the second half of getting the ball in the post and working it inside.”
