CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team is ranked No. 3 in the 2015 preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Tuesday. It marks the eighth consecutive year the Cavaliers have been in the preseason top five.

The Cavaliers have three singles players and three doubles teams in the latest individual rankings, also released Tuesday.

Virginia is the only team nationally to have two players ranked in the top six nationally. Sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.), who reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships in October, cracks the top-10 for the first time in his career at No. 4. Junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) has a career-high No. 6 ranking after reaching the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships in November. Junior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) opens the spring ranked No. 47 nationally.

In doubles, the team of Shane and sophomore Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) is No. 14 after winning the ITA Atlantic Regional in the fall. Styslinger and Kwiatkowski open the spring at No. 37, while the pair of Styslinger and Corinteli is ranked No. 41.

The Cavaliers open the dual match season on Jan. 23-24 with the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The event, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, features four teams competing at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Virginia plays No. 54 George Washington in the first round on Jan. 23 and will play either No. 39 Louisville or No. 51 VCU on Jan. 24.
