CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia softball team opens the 2015 season at the Kajikawa Classic Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 5-7) in Tempe, Ariz.

The Cavaliers’ season opener will be against BYU on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will face Stanford afterwards at 9 p.m. UVa squares off against UTEP on Friday at 11 a.m. and takes on Utah Valley and Wisconsin on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively. All times are Eastern.

The Cavaliers return four starters from the 2014 squad, including senior Heidi Velk (Murietta, Calif.), who led the team with 14 stolen bases and was second on the squad with 35 hits.

UVa welcomes in eight newcomers, including sophomore transfers Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.) and McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) and freshmen Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.), Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.), Andie Formby (Orange, Calif.), Lauren Heintzelman (Southlake, Texas), Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Brittany McNulla (Litchfield, N.H.).

BYU, the defending West Coast Conference champion, leads the all-time series with UVa, 3-2, while Stanford and Wisconsin each hold a 2-0 all-time advantage over Virginia. The Cavaliers have never faced UTEP and Utah Valley.

Next week, the Cavaliers travel to Durham, N.C., to take part in a tournament at NC Central Feb. 13-15.
