Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 19 Virginia men’s golf team will play the first of two Spring Break tournaments starting Monday, March 9 at the 18th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday and will be contested at the historic Palmetto Golf Club.

The tournament will feature a 6,617-yard, par-70 setup. The first two rounds of the event will be played on Monday. The tournament will conclude with a single round on Tuesday. The Palmetto Golf Club was founded in 1892 and it is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States.

In addition to host USC Aiken and Virginia, this year’s field includes Clemson, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, GRU Augusta, Idaho, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Presbyterian, South Carolina, USC Aiken, Western Carolina, Wisconsin and Wofford.

Virginia’s lineup features Denny McCarthy, Derek Bard, Ji Soo Park, Kyle Kochevar and Danny Walker.

The Cavaliers placed second at last year’s tournament, finishing at 16-over 856, two shots behind Clemson. Bard was the runner-up at 1-over 211 while McCarthy shot 3-over 213.

UVa will remain on the road during the school’s spring break period to compete at the Seminole Intercollegiate March 13-15 in Tallahassee, Fla.
