CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Shane posted four ranked singles and doubles wins as the Cavaliers downed a pair of top-15 foes.

Shane, currently ranked No. 6 nationally in singles, had two top-50 singles wins last week as Virginia defeated No. 14 North Carolina and No. 4 Duke by identical 6-1 scores. Against the Tar Heels, Shane delivered a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 24 Ronnie Schneider at the No. 1 position. Two days later, he downed No. 41 Jason Tahir 7-6(3), 7-5 at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory over the Blue Devils. In doubles, the eighth-ranked pair of Shane and Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) posted wins over No. 27 Oystein Steiro and Esben Hess-Olesen of North Carolina and No. 12 Nicolas Alvarez and Raphael Hemmeler of Duke.

The award is the second of Shane’s career and the first for a Cavalier this season.

The Cavaliers (14-3, 7-0 ACC), who moved up to No. 4 in this week’s ITA rankings, will continue their homestand this week with a pair of matches. Virginia hosts William & Mary Saturday at 2 p.m. and No. 13 Virginia Tech Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches are scheduled at the Snyder Tennis Center and admission is free.
