Greensboro, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team leads the 18th annual Bryan National Collegiate tournament after Friday’s opening round of play. The Cavaliers shot 9-over 297 and own a one-shot advantage over No. 13 Wake Forest. The three-day event is taking place at Bryan Park Champions Course in Greensboro, N.C.

UVa senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) is tied for second place at 2-under 70 following the opening round. Sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 10th place at 2-over 74. Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) is 26th after shooting 76, freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) is 31st at 77 and Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) is 38th at 78. Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio), competing as a non-scoring individual, is in 48th place with a 79.

Wake Forest’s Allison Emrey leads the 18-team tournament with an opening round score of 3-under 69.

Virginia will be paired with the Demon Deacons and third-place Auburn for the second round. They will start from the first tee beginning at 9:50 a.m. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
