CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The second-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team hits the pitch at home for the first time this season, closing out preseason competition with a friendly against Maryland at 7 p.m. on Monday at Klöckner Stadium.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 5-2 win over Illinois to close out the first week of training camp in Michigan. Four different players scored in that friendly against the Illini, including a two-goal performance from senior Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.). Three different players notched assists on the afternoon, including a two-assist performance from both freshman Hana Kerner (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and junior Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.).

The friendly with the Terrapins is a showdown of former conference opponents and the first meeting between the two teams since the 2013 season. It is the final exhibition match before Virginia opens the 2015 season. The Cavaliers welcome UNC Wilmington to Klöckner Stadium for the opening match of the season on Sunday, August 23, at 2 p.m.
