GREENSBORO, N.C. — Virginia volleyball freshman Anna Walsh (Grapevine, Texas) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Aug. 31).

Walsh tallied 21 kills and led Virginia with a .450 hitting percentage in the Cavaliers’ two matches over the weekend. She recorded 10 kills and four blocks in her collegiate debut to help UVa top Loyola Marymount 3-1.

The middle hitter then led the team with 11 kills against No. 20 UCLA, finishing with no errors for a .647 hitting percentage. She finished the weekend with three digs and four total blocks.

This is the first ACC weekly honor of the 2015 season and first honor for Walsh.

Virginia hosts the annual Cavalier Classic this weekend in Memorial Gym. The Cavaliers host VCU in the home opener on Friday (Sept. 4) at 7 p.m., then take on Appalachian State at 10 a.m. and Iowa State at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 5).
