CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia cross country teams have been ranked in the first national poll of the 2015 season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday (Sept. 1).

The Cavalier men have been tabbed No. 9 in the nation and is the top team in the season-opening USTFCCCA Southeast Region rankings. The UVa men return the entire squad that placed 21st at the NCAA Championships and captured the Southeast Region title in 2014.

The UVa women, who finished 15th at the NCAA Championships and second in the Southeast Region in 2014, have been ranked 16th in the nation and second in the regional poll. The Cavalier women return five of its seven runners at the national meet.

The Cavaliers open the 2015 season Wednesday with the UVa Duals at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. Both genders will compete in 4K races with the men beginning at 5 p.m. Competing against Virginia will be Charlotte, James Madison, Liberty and Norfolk State. Admission is free.

The meet is open to the public and entries are now open through Wednesday at 3 p.m. Entry to the meet is free, but competitors must contact assistant coach Mario Wilson at mow6n@virginia.edu to complete the entry process.

The UVa Duals will be the first of three meets hosted by the Cavaliers. The Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational will be held Sept. 26 and for the second time in three years, the Cavaliers will host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Nov. 13.
