CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 23 Virginia (3-1) wrestling team continues to compete on the road this Friday, traveling to face No. 5 Ohio State, the defending NCAA Champions, at 6:30 p.m. It’s the fifth consecutive road dual for the Cavaliers and third against a nationally-ranked opponent.

Virginia defeated No. 25 North Dakota State this past Friday before continuing to wrestle on the road with three matches at the Gopher Duals on Saturday. At the Gopher Duals, the Cavaliers defeated South Dakota State and Grand Canyon University, while dropping a tight contest to No. 24 Minnesota.

It’s the first dual meet of the season for Ohio State, which is coming off an appearance at the Eastern Michigan Open where seven Buckeyes claimed championships.

The Matchup:
It’s a showdown of nationally-ranked foes as Virginia moved into the national rankings with a solid performance last weekend on the road. The Cavaliers send three wrestlers to the mat who are nationally-ranked in the latest InterMat rankings, while Ohio State has six wrestlers ranked nationally in their weight class. Virginia faced Ohio State last season, falling to the Buckeyes in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers will continue to wrestle against nationally-ranked opponents on Sunday, returning home to host No. 15 Old Dominion in a 1 p.m. match at Memorial Gymnasium. It’s the first home dual meet of the season for Virginia.
