CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia junior swimmer Leah Smith has been named the Team Unify/CollegeSwimming.com National Female Swimmer of the Week, CollegeSwimming.com announced Tuesday.

Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.), a two-time NCAA Champion, captured three event wins at the Georgia Fall Invitational Dec. 4-6 in Athens, Ga. Smith won the 200 free in 1:43.97, the 500 free in 4:32.36 and the 1,650 free in 15:39.36. Her mile time (15:39.36) and her prelim time in the 500 free (4:30.85) are both the top times in the country so far. Her 200 free time (1:43.97) ranks third in the nation.

Smith was also led off the second-place 800 free relay that hit an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark of 7:04.87.

Up next, Smith and Cavalier senior teammate Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) will represent the United States in the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool Dec. 11-12 in Indianapolis. The meet pits an American squad against Europe’s best. UVA head coach Augie Busch has been selected as a women’s assistant coach for Team USA.

The Cavaliers return to action Jan. 8-9 against Notre Dame at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville.
