Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 24 Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its spring break swing through the state of South Carolina with an appearance at the General Hackler Championship. The tournament takes place Friday and Saturday, March 12-13 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The teams will use a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. for the first round and continuously play for 36 holes. For the final round, teams will tee off from the first and 10th tees starting at 8:30 a.m. Golfstat will provide live scoring for the event.

This year’s field includes: Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina (host), No. 44 East Carolina, Iowa State, Kent State, No. 43 NC State, No. 16 North Carolina, No. 30 North Florida, No. 19 South Carolina, No. 32 Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Winthrop.

Virginia’s lineup features junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y), junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), senior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.). Freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) will compete as an individual.

Bard, who is ranked No. 45 in the latest Golfstat rankings, leads the team with a 71.35 stroke average. He has been UVA’s top scorer in four of seven tournaments this season, including a fifth-place finish to open the team’s spring break swing at the Palmetto Invite.

Last year, the event’s first at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, North Florida won the team title carding a three-round score of 861 (-3), which was the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in tournament history. NC State finished second with an 873 (+9) and Iowa State finished in third with an 896 (+12). Individual medalist honors were shared among North Florida’s Joey Petronio, Winthrop Zach Seabolt and Iowa State’s Nick Voke as the trio shot matching scores of 212 (-4). Furthermore, Voke set The Dunes Golf & Beach Club course record with his second round 65 (-7).
