CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 1 Virginia men’s tennis team (13-2, 3-0 ACC) logged a 7-0 victory over No. 33 NC State (11-9, 1-3 ACC) on Friday (March 18) at the Snyder Tennis Center.

“I was pleased with our overall performance today against a strong NC State team,” said Virginia head coach Brian Boland. “It was a positive for us to play in some pretty difficult conditions with swirling winds on the courts. Hopefully that gives us some good experience on how to deal with less-than-perfect conditions, because nothing is ever going to be just right. Now we look forward to preparing to play an outstanding Florida State team on Sunday.”

The Cavaliers won the doubles point after junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) as well as junior J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and sophomore Collin Altamirano (Sacramento, Calif.) won their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 by 6-2 scores.

In singles, Styslinger logged a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chris Mikrovas at No. 6. Sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 over Michael Ogden. Kwiatkowski secured the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Shoti Meparidze at No. 3. Altamirano gave UVA a 5-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ivan Saveljic at No. 2.

Shane, playing at No. 1, battled back after dropping his first set in a tiebreaker to win his second two sets 7-5, 6-4. Aragone closed out the sweep by winning his third set in a tiebreaker after winning his first 6-3 but dropping his second 7-5 to Igor Saveljic at No. 4.

The Cavaliers continue their current homestand on Sunday, hosting No. 23 Florida State (12-4, 4-1 ACC) at 1 p.m. ET. The match is currently scheduled to be played at the Snyder Tennis Center. Any weather-related updates for the match will be posted on VirginiaSports.com and on Facebook and Twitter.
