CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Hurricanes grabbed the doubles point and picked up straight-set wins on courts two, three and four to secure victory on Friday as No. 12 Virginia (10-7, 5-3 ACC) fell 5-2 at No. 6 Miami (11-4, 6-2 ACC).

The Hurricanes took the early lead in the contest, claiming the doubles point to get out to the 1-0 lead on the Cavaliers. Miami secured the first point of the match with wins on courts one and two in doubles play.

The UVA duo of Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) fell 6-1 on court two to the pairing of Sinead Lohan and Ana Madcur. The No. 9 Miami pairing of Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang then defeated the No. 21 duo of Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Me.) by a score of 6-2 on court one to secure the doubles point.

Miami continued to build on the lead in singles play, taking the 2-0 lead in the overall score as No. 109 Wendy Zhang defeated No. 111 Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) 6-2, 6-3 on court three.

A win on court four took the lead out to 3-0 as Silvia Fuentes defeated Victoria Olivarez (Virginia Beach, Va.) 6-4, 6-3.

The Hurricanes clinched the win as No. 6 Lohan defeated No. 16 Elbaba 6-4, 7-6 on court two.

Fourth-ranked Collins put the Cavaliers on the board with a 7-6, 6-3 win on court one over No. 5 Stephanie Wagner, before lighting forced a delay in the match. Upon resumption, Kelley closed out her match 7-5, 6-3 on court five to give the Cavaliers a second win in singles.

Miami closed out the match for a 5-2 final score as Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) fell on court six.

Virginia will return to action on Sunday afternoon, facing the Florida State Seminoles at 12 p.m. The match will be played at the Speicher Tennis Center with live stats available at VirginiaSports.com.
