CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse goalie Matt Barrett (Glenmoore, Pa.) was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for games played March 28- April 3.

Barrett recorded the eighth shutout in UVA men’s lacrosse history and first since 2007 (VMI, 20-0) when the Cavaliers blanked Richmond on the road, 9-0 on Saturday. He made 12 saves against the Spiders as the Virginia defense frustrated the Richmond offense all afternoon. Barrett played the first half in a home 19-4 win over VMI, which included scoreless droughts by the Keydets of 27:00 and 15:12.

It is Barrett’s third career ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor after earning the accolade once as a freshman in 2014 (Feb. 18) and again in 2015 (March 9) as a sophomore.
