No. 3 Virginia Wins Eight Races at Clemson Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 3 Virginia rowing team won eight of 10 races on Saturday (April 16) at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell. The Cavaliers swept all five races in the morning session and won three of five races in the evening session.
UVA dominated the morning session, defeating No. 13 Indiana, No. 14 Washington State, Central Florida, Clemson, Cornell, Penn and No. 20 Louisville (Third Varsity Eight only) in all five races. The Varsity Eight (6:43.1), Second Varsity Eight (6:55.8), Varsity Four (7:40), Second Varsity Four (7:42.2) and Third Varsity Eight (7:03.5) each out-raced their competition.
The Third Varsity Eight (6:48.8), Second Varsity Four (7:20.1) and Varsity Four (7:19.7) posted consecutive wins to begin the evening session against No. 4 Ohio State, No. 8 Texas, No. 13 Indiana, No. 14 Washington State, Central Florida, Clemson, Michigan State, San Diego and Cornell. The Second Varsity Four topped runner-up Ohio State by seven seconds and the Varsity Four defeated runner-up Texas by three seconds. The Cavaliers also posted a pair of runner-up finishes to the Buckeyes in the Second Varsity Eight (6:29.2) and Varsity Eight (6:19.7).
The Cavaliers conclude action at the Clemson Invitation tomorrow morning against No. 10 Michigan, No. 19 Syracuse, Oklahoma, UCLA and Penn. No. 4 Ohio State and Michigan State will join the six teams as novice entries in the Third Varsity Eight race. First race on Sunday (April 17) is set for 8:30 a.m.
