GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Varsity Four was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after winning all three of its events last weekend at the Clemson Invitational, held on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.

The Virginia V4 finished first in session one on Saturday (April 16) with a time of 7:40.0 in defeating 14th-ranked Washington State (7:53.1) by more than 13 seconds, while also outdistancing Clemson (7:58.4), 13th-ranked Indiana (8:00.2), Cornell (8:01.4), Penn (8:06.1) and UCF (8:10.5).

The UVA V4 then finished first in its session two on Saturday afternoon, posting a time of 7:19.7 in defeating eighth-ranked Texas (7:22.6), third-ranked Ohio State (7:29.3), San Diego (7:31.7), Cornell (7:42.8) and Michigan State (8:09.3).

Finally on Sunday (April 17), the Virginia V4 posted a time of 7:29.5 in defeating 10th-ranked Michigan (7:35.7), 20th-ranked Syracuse (7:40.6), Oklahoma (7:43.9), UCLA (7:47.1) and Penn (8:05.09). The Virginia Varsity Four is composed of sophomore coxswain Rachel Dick (Bethesda, Md.); junior stroke Taylor Leonard (Arlington, Va.); junior three-seat Marijane Brennan (Gross Pointe Farms, Mich.); sophomore two-seat Mackenzie Springer (Fairfax, Va.) and junior bow Karen Schulte (Trout Run, Pa.).

The Varsity Four accounted for three of 12 races captured by the third-ranked Cavaliers last weekend. The UVA V4 was selected over the Syracuse Varsity Four, which posted the fastest time of the weekend in the event at the Clemson Invitational.

Virginia returns to action at eighth-ranked Texas on Saturday, April 30.
