CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia junior right-hander Connor Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office. It marks Jones’ second such honor in the last four weeks. He also earned the distinction on April 11 following a shutout at Boston College.

Jones won his fourth straight start and fired his second complete game in his last four starts as Virginia won the series opener, 5-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Pitt. In saving the UVA bullpen for the nightcap of the doubleheader, he carried a one-hitter into the ninth inning, allowing just an infield single and two walks while Pitt hit only three balls out of the infield.

In all, he gave up four hits and two walks while striking out five as he set the tone for the Cavaliers’ series sweep in Pittsburgh. Jones also won the battle of aces against Pitt’s T.J. Zeuch as UVA handed Zeuch his first loss of the season.

Winners of five straight games and 10 of its last 13, Virginia (30-17) travels to Liberty for a 7 p.m. Tuesday matchup in the Cavaliers’ final game before a break for final exams.
