CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia wrestling team have been named to All-Academic honors by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the organization announced on Monday.

Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.), Patrick Gillen (Shelton, Conn.) and Zach Nye (Enola, Pa.) all earned recognition for their achievement in the classroom and on the mat.

An NCAA qualifier for the second straight season in 2016, Atkinson posted a 24-11 record that included a 10-3 mark in dual matches. Majoring in Kinesiology, Atkinson also earned selection to the All-ACC Academic team earlier this spring.

Gillen qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2016 to close out his career for the Cavaliers. It marked his first time qualifying for the NCAA Championships, giving Virginia a total of five qualifiers for the 2016 season. He is completing his master’s degree in Physical Education and Kinesiology. Gillen was named to the All-ACC Academic team earlier this spring.

Nye qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season in 2016, posting a 26-12 mark on the season. He went 9-4 in dual match competition and also earned All-ACC Academic team honors this season. He is completing a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. Nye was named to the All-ACC Academic team earlier this spring.
