CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 14 seed Virginia (17-10) women’s tennis team wasted no time in its opening round match, grabbing a 4-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at the Snyder Tennis Center.

With the win, the Cavaliers set up a second-round matchup against LSU (19-11) on Saturday. First serve is set for 3 p.m.

Virginia got singles wins from No. 12 Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) and Taylor Wingo (Newport Beach, Va.) on the way to the opening-round victory. Elbaba’s victory gave her 34 for the season, marking the most singles wins by a senior in program history.

The Cavaliers cruised through the doubles matches, picking up the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories on courts two and three. The duo of Elbaba and Susi claimed the first win on court three before the pairing of Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) clinched the point on court two.

Wingo grabbed the second point of the day for the Cavaliers when she picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sabrina Helm on court six. It was quickly followed by a 6-0, 6-0 win on court five from Susi over Katarina Pavlovic.

Elbaba closed out the match with the clinching point on court two, posting her 6-0, 6-1 win over Gisela Castany.
