Incoming #UVAWBB guard Dominique Toussaint, New York State’s Miss Basketball and NY Gatorade Player of the Year, is heading off to Colorado Springs to participate in USA Basketball U18 team trials before coming to Charlottesville. The current issue of UVA Arts Magazine takes a look at the collaboration between the Virginia athletics marketing department, the women’s basketball team, Walker Elementary and the Fralin Museum’s Jacob Lawrence Exhibition. As part of the efforts to create a school field trip day that integrated Virginia educational standards forthe elementary curriculum, a unique partnership was fostered. “Collaborating with UVA Athletics to createart though storytelling was pure magic,” Walker elementray artteacher Samantha Pagni said. “Using the paintings ofJacob Lawrence served as a springboard to provide my students with anauthentic, enriched foundation to create their own visual stories about theirpassions, struggles and achievements. And the invitation to exhibit their workin a public space left them beaming with pride!”

Former #UVAFH midfielder Michelle Vittese and the U.S. Women’s National Team continue their preparations for #Rio2016. The team has already qualified and will be playing August 6-19 at the Olympic Hockey Centre. This will be the second-straight Olympic games for Vittese.
