CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ââ’¬” The No. 12 Virginia men’s soccer team opens its 2016 road schedule Monday with a non-conference match at James Madison. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Va. It marks UVA’s first trip to Harrisonburg since Sept. 25, 1991.

Virginia-James Madison Series
Virginia is 18-4-2 all-time versus James Madison after scoring a 2-0 win over the Dukes on Sept. 15, 2015, in Charlottesville. UVA has a 17-match unbeaten streak against JMU (16-0-1), dating to a 1980 defeat. The Cavaliers’ last match in Harrisonburg was a 2-0 win.

Cavaliers Showcase Depth
Virginia has shown it features a deep roster in its first two matches, playing 21 men in the season-opening win against Coastal Carolina and 19 on Friday in the 1-1 draw against Xavier. Defenders Robin Afamefuna and Sergi Nus and goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell are the lone Cavaliers to not step off the field yet this season. Virginia features a new-look roster this year with 13 newcomers to the program.

Shutler Currently Playing on USMNT U-19 Team
Freshman goalkeeper Colin Shutler is currently competing with the United States Men’s National U-19 Team in the 2016 Stevan-Vilotic Cele tournament, which runs Sept. 1-5 in Subotica, Serbia.

Gelnovatch Moves into 21st Season as Head Coach
UVA head coach George Gelnovatch is in his 21st season as the Cavaliers’ head coach as well as his 28th year on the coaching staff. He owns a 285-177-45 career record as head coach and needs 10 wins to match Bruce Arena as the winningest coach in program history. His 21-year tenure is tied for the sixth longest in ACC men’s soccer history.

Noting James Madison
JMU is 0-3 on the young season, but all three defeats came by one goal, including a 1-0 decision at Penn State on Friday evening. The Dukes also fell at home to Lehigh (1-0) and NC State (3-2) in the season’s opening weekend in Harrisonburg. JMU has out-shot its opponents, 42-38.
