Virginia Plays Host to Radford Tuesday Evening

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia men’s soccer team starts a three-match homestand at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 11) when it plays host to Radford at Klöckner Stadium.

Virginia-Radford Series
Virginia holds an 11-0 all-time record against Radford, although the programs have played only two times in the past 25 years. The sides last met on Oct. 21, 2014, with the Cavaliers scoring a 3-0 win at Klöckner Stadium.

UVA Looks To Keep Up Solid Play at Home
Virginia is unbeaten (4-0-3) on its home pitch at Klöckner Stadium this season. UVA plays its next three matches and four of its final five regular-season games at home. UVA has outscored its opponents 14-5 at home this year.

Now in its 73rd year of men’s soccer, Virginia is playing its 25th season of soccer at Klöckner Stadium. UVA has a 261-52-23 record at the venerable facility.

UVA Rallies to Top UNC, 2-1
Virginia rallied from a halftime deficit to capture a 2-1 victory at No. 4 North Carolina Friday. UVA snapped the Tar Heels’ nine-match unbeaten streak versus the Cavaliers. UVA scored its first win over UNC since 2008, also a triumph in Chapel Hill.

Pablo Aguilar scored the equalizer, while Wesley Wade buried the eventual game-winning goal in the 78th minute for Virginia. UVA goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell matched a career high with seven saves, including five in the second half.

Cavaliers Grow Stronger in Second Half
With increased depth throughout its roster this year, Virginia has worn its opponents down and been especially strong in the second half of games. UVA has outscored its foes 13-4 in the second half of matches this year. In comparison, the Cavaliers have been outscored 9-7 in the first half.

Cavaliers on Four-Game Unbeaten Streak
Virginia is unbeaten in its last four matches, dating to a tough defeat at Louisville on Sept. 24. Since that match, UVA has outscored its foes 7-1 while going 3-0-1.

Rigorous Schedule Continues
UVA is currently in the midst of a stretch of nine matches in a 28-day span. Four of the nine games are against top-20 foes (Louisville, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame), with seven of the nine against teams with winning records. UVA matches up with its sixth top-20 opponent in as many ACC matches on Friday when No. 2 Notre Dame comes to Klöckner Stadium.

Noting Radford
Radford has won three straight matches after a 1-0 overtime result over Presbyterian on Saturday night. Radford was No. 8 in the NSCAA South Region rankings last week (UVA was No. 10). The Highlanders were an NCAA tournament team and went 14-4-2 in 2015. Sivert Daehlie leads the team with four goals. The Highlanders have been strong defensively, conceding just eight times in 11 matches.
