CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior midfielder Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Virginia women’s soccer team to an undefeated week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Virginia moved up to No. 5 in the latest NSCAA Coaches Poll after posting a 6-0 victory over Pittsburgh and a 1-0 victory at No. 20 Notre Dame last week.

Shaffer recorded her first career hat trick in the victory over the Panthers before hitting the game-winner in the road victory over the Irish. Her goal against Notre Dame came on a penalty kick and is the only goal scored against the Irish at their home stadium this season. It also marked the only blemish on the home record for Notre Dame who was 7-0-0 at home entering the match.

The senior midfielder scored her four goals on only eight shots and converted her three goals against Pittsburgh on only four shots. She now holds the team lead in goals with nine on the season and her 22 points moved her into a tie for the ACC lead.

Virginia returns to action this week with a road match at No. 4 Duke on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
