CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 5 Virginia (10-2-2, 3-1-2 ACC) women’s soccer team hits the road this weekend for another top-five showdown, taking on No. 4 Duke (10-2-2, 5-0-1 ACC) at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
The match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra as a part of the WatchESPN app. Live stats and a link to the video broadcast are available at VirginiaSport.com.
Virginia enters the contest coming off a pair of wins last week with a 6-0 victory over Pittsburgh and a 1-0 win at No. 20 Notre Dame, while the Blue Devils are undefeated in conference play and have won four straight matches since a tie with Louisville in the second conference match of the season.
Senior midfielder Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) returns home leading the Cavalier offense with nine goals and four assists on the season. She is the reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Week after recording her first career hat trick against Pittsburgh and hitting the game-winner on a penalty kick at Notre Dame on Sunday.
In all, the Cavaliers have 12 different goal scorers this season and 13 different players with assists this season. Virginia has scored 37 goals on the year, averaging almost three goals per match, while allowing only seven goals through 14 matches.
That defensive production has come from a veteran back line that features seniors Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va.), Tina Iordanou (Upper Brookville, N.Y.), Kristen McNabb (Montville, N.J.) and junior Megan Reid (Orinda, Calif.) along the back line. Senior Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) anchors the defense in goal.
The squad has posted 10 shutouts, all victories for the Cavaliers, and held opponents to six shots per game, including two contests where opponents didn’t get a shot off for the match.
Duke has scored 36 goals on the season, while limiting opponents to 11 goals through 14 matches. Imani Dorsey and Ella Stevens lead the offense with seven goals each this season, while Christina Gibbons is the top ball distributor with seven assists this season.
E.J. Proctor has all the decisions in goal for the Blue Devils, including six solo shutouts while allowing 10 goals and posting 37 saves on 110 shots faced.
