CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Edward Opoku (So., Rye, N.Y.) and Jeff Caldwell (Jr., Todd, N.C.) swept the ACC men’s soccer weekly honors this week, with Opoku earning offensive player of the week honors, and Caldwell grabbing defensive player of the week laurels for the third straight week.

Opoku scored the lone goal in Virginia’s 1-0 win Friday night against No. 2 Notre Dame. He intercepted a pass originally sent back toward the Irish defenders near midfield and drove down the field and into the box before weaving and firing a shot past the ND keeper. The seventh-minute goal was his team-leading fifth score of the season.

Caldwell helped Virginia extend its unbeaten run to six matches with solid play in UVA’s midweek draw with Radford and its win against No. 2 Notre Dame. After recording a pair of saves Tuesday, he tied his career high with seven saves Friday against the Fighting Irish, including five during the second half as Notre Dame brought waves of pressure in search of the equalizing goal. He recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season, with four coming during the last six matches.

Virginia plays host to William & Mary at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 18) and travels to Pitt Friday (Oct. 21) for a 7 p.m. ACC match with the Panthers before returning home Oct. 28 for the regular-season finale against Duke.
