CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend (Dec. 2-4) for the Georgia Fall Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Cavaliers will face both men’s and women’s teams from California, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Auburn’s men and the diving corps from Harvard and UCLA.

The meet will be contested under a championship format with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. each morning and finals starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The diving competitions will be held at 11:30 a.m. and during finals on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Virginia’s women are ranked No. 5 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll, while the men are receiving votes. On the men’s side, California is No. 6, Michigan is No. 10, Georgia is No. 13 and Auburn is No. 17. On the women’s side, Georgia is No. 2, Michigan is No. 4 and California is No. 10.

In the national rankings, junior Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.) is currently No. 6 in the women’s 200-yard butterfly, while senior Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) is ranked No. 13 in the 100 breaststroke and fellow senior Kaitlyn Jones (Newark, Del.) is No. 20 in the 200 fly. On the men’s side, sophomore Zach Fong (Moorestown, N.J.) is No. 23 in the men’s 200 fly.

Up next, the Cavalier diving corps will compete at the Tennessee Diving Invite Jan. 3-5. The full UVA squads will be in action for their final home meet against Virginia Tech Jan. 13-14.
