CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ÃÆ’¢Ãƒ¢’¬” Senior midfielder Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) earned first-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the organization announced on Friday (Dec. 2).

It marks the seventh consecutive season for the Cavaliers to have a first-team All-America selection from the NSCAA and the 14th consecutive season for Virginia to have an All-America selection by the organization.

Shaffer was a first-team All-Region selection by the NSCAA earlier this week.

A midfielder, Shaffer paced the Cavalier offense in 2016 with a team-leading 13 goals, seven assists and 32 points. She hit three game-winning goals and notched her first hat trick of the season in a win over Pittsburgh. Her game-winners came against Michigan State, at No. 20 Notre Dame and Monmouth in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

She was named one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy honoring the top collegiate soccer player earlier this week. Virginia has had a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy for the previous four seasons, claiming the award twice in 2013 and 2014.
