Complete ITA Women’s Rankings

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team enters the 2017 season ranked No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA Women’s National Team Rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced with the release of its latest rankings on Wednesday (Jan. 4).

The Cavaliers, which advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships a year ago, return three letter winners off that squad and welcome five newcomers to the squad. The five newcomers comprised one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, coming in at No. 5 in the evaluation released by TennisRecruiting.net.

In singles play, freshman Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and sophomore Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) are ranked in the women’s singles rankings. Johanson, who posted a 12-4 record in the fall, is ranked No. 79 nationally, while Kelley is ranked No. 124 after posting an 11-5 mark in the fall. Kelley went 29-9 last season as a freshman, including a 21-4 mark in dual matches and 12-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Virginia opens the 2017 seasons on Saturday, Jan. 21, when the Cavaliers host Boston College at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sport Center.
