CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were named College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Teams, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers were among a record 638 teams (Division I-III) to be honored. The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 Fall Semester.

During the recent fall semester, the women’s team posted a 3.23 GPA and the men finished with a 3.12. Virginia is one of seven teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference to have both teams recognized as Scholar All-American.

In total, 73 percent of all CSCAA member programs posted GPA’s above 3.00 with 91 percent of Division I women’s teams meeting the mark. Women’s teams averaged a 3.336 GPA with men slightly behind at 3.22. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the fall semester.

UVA’s men will travel to Atlanta next week for the ACC Championships (Feb. 27-March 2). The Cavalier women finished second a week ago and will wait on NCAA selections, which will be announced on Wednesday, March 1.
