CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse player Zed Williams was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference for games played through Feb. 26.

Williams (Sr., Irving, N.Y.) led UVA with seven goals and nine total points last week, which included a 20-13 win over Siena and a narrow 11-10 setback at then-No. 17 Penn. Williams also picked up 10 ground balls from the attack position.

Williams led all scorers in the win over Siena with four goals and six points, while also picking up seven key ground balls. Williams scored the game’s first goal 1:02 into the contest and then assisted on the game’s next goal 11 seconds later.

In narrow defeat at Penn Williams’ three goals proved helpful as UVA overcame deficits of three goals, two goals and one goal throughout the game. His first goal against the Quakers started a 3-0 UVA run in the first half that tied the game, 4-4, after Penn started with an early 4-1 lead. After UVA went down 7-5 in the second quarter, Williams started a 2-0 run with his second goal, helping send UVA into the intermission tied, 7-7. After trailing 10-8 in the fourth quarter, UVA managed one more comeback on a 2-0 run, which Williams capped with his game-tying goal (10-10) at the 8:48 mark of the fourth quarter.

It is the first career honor for Williams and the third week in a row a Cavalier earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Dox Aitken earned the honor on Feb. 13 and Mike D’Amario was awarded the accolade last week for his seven-goal performance against Drexel.

Virginia returns to action on Wednesday night when High Point comes to KlÃÆ’¶ckner Stadium. The second ever meeting with the Panthers commences at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast by ACC Network Extra.
